We are so excited to not only share with you about what's coming up in November, but also what fun we had last month. It's just too good to keep to ourselves!
What a busy month we had in October! Students have gotten to know and befriend their classmates, settled into their classes, and are now busy focusing on learning and attaining skills! We had a super fun time at our Kids Halloween Party and BFF Halloween Friendship Week. What creative costumes we got to enjoy and new friends we got to meet!
ANNOUNCING OUR BFF HALLOWEEN FRIENDSHIP WEEK RAFFLE WINNER:
Congratulations to ballet, tap and jazz student, Gianna Seip in winning $50 in Studio Sharise Bucks! Whoo Hoo!!
TAKING THE BOO OUT OF BULLYING
October was also National "Bullying Prevention Month" and we're glad that we ran relevant activities as sadly, many of our students are currently experiencing or have experienced being bullied, as well as witnessing the bullying of others:(
Our younger classes read, danced, or acted out the story "The Recess Queen" and chatted about the importance of being heard and going to our grown-ups if ever in trouble. Older students took the "BOO" out of bullying by playing "Kindness Balloon" (where students passed the balloon with different body parts as they called out ways to be kind). Not only did we learn some very unique ways to show kindness, but students built coordination and isolation skills by having to pass a balloon with no hands! To further emphasize the importance of kindness, "Boo Grams" were sent home to be made for a friend or family member, and some of our classes also took the "Be a Hero" pledge.
WHAT'S TO COME IN NOVEMBER?.
IN CLASS ACTING REHEARSALS: Our acting students (Little Burbank Players and Young Burbank Players) are busy preparing for their end of semester showcases. Lines and blocking will be learned and props and costumes pulled. Students will also be busy designing the backdrops and/or programs for these fun in-class performances for families and friends. We look forward to this being a special and low-pressure event for our acting students and families (and a great warm up performance for their main stage show in June)!
MUSIC STUDENTS PREPARE FOR PARENT'S DAY: Our private music students will be putting the finishing touches on the pieces they've been working on. They are excited to share their work to their parents the last week of classes in December!
BALLET PERFORMANCE AWARDS: We begin learning choreography for our Performance Awards Program for ballet students ages 5+ (Our Little Dancers thru Ballet I classes). Ballet parents, detailed information was sent out earlier. Please check your email and give us a call if you have any questions.
HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING: A gift of the arts is a gift that lasts a lifetime!
We'll be offering our Gift Certificates starting in November. Gift Certificates may be purchased in any amount and can go towards tuition, uniform, or class supplies. Pairing a gift certificate with dance shoes or a Studio Sharise T-shirt makes for a great holiday gift! Shoe and T-shirt orders must be made by November 30th to make sure they arrive on time for the Holidays. Please email, call, or contact us in the office to place your order.
THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY: Classes will be closed from 11/21/17- 11/26/17 CLASSES RESUME 11/27/17
Our families' questions, thoughts, ideas, and concerns are very important to me as a school owner and teacher. I know that during busy teaching times, I may not always have a chance to speak individually with each of our wonderful parents. So between the hours of 12-2pm on Fridays, beginning Nov 3rd, I will be in the office for the sole purpose of taking your phone calls. Please book your time in your Member Portal under "Book Appointments or Lessons". I look forward to chatting with you!
NEW ONLINE DANCE CLASSES!: You've requested and we've heard! Soon, we will be providing the opportunity for students in our technique classes to practice class at home! Recordings of classes will soon be posted privately on our website and available to just our students. This online tool will be most beneficial for student growth! Students will be able to practice at home what they are learning in classes, students injured or ill can stay caught up, and students joining a new class can get "up to speed". We want our students to succeed and feel confident in their learning - and our new online tool will help SS students do just that! More info. to come!
COMMUNICATION IS KEY AND SO IS SAVING THE TREES:
We want to do our part to protect the environment and (as we tell our students),"Hug the knees and trees, please". So we plan to reduce our paper printing as much as possible. To make sure you don't miss any important school/class information, please make sure we have an updated email address on file for you (and please read your emails), become a member of our Closed Facebook group, "Staying Connected", and view your Member Portal for pertinent information.
Access to your Member Portal can be found in the menu options on our website..
If you need help in creating your account or navigating your Member Portal, please contact us. We will be happy to walk you through the process.
Dance Costume Sizing for our all-student Celebration Performance will be the week of December 11th-16th. During the last 20 mins. of class, we will have students try on a sizing leotard and/or gather sizing information from our parents. Please mark this week on your calendar as costumes must be ordered in January and we do not plan to have another sizing week due to holiday vacation.
NOVEMBER DATES TO REMEMBER:
11 /21/17- 11/26/17 Thanksgiving Holiday
11/30/17 Holiday Shoe and/or T-Shirt Order Deadline
With much thankfulness and gratitude! Happy November!!
